Debt-Proof Your Christmas: Celebrating the Holidays without Breaking the Bank

Debt-Proof Your Christmas

Christmas stresses me out.   That hurts to confess openly.  It should be a time of joy and thankfulness for Jesus Christ, but each year I tend to wish it be over quicker than the year before.

I don’t like that I feel that way.   I want a joyous Christmas!  I want to share that joy, but first I must experience it myself.

So, what’s a busy stressed out woman with maxed out credit cards to do?

Read Debt-Proof Your Christmas for starters.   I recently read this book and have found a road map to a less stressful and even joyous Christmas.   Although I won’t be able to implement many of the ideas, such as preparing months ahead for the December holiday, I can use some of the ideas for this coming Christmas.  Then in January, I can use the entire book to prepare for a cash only Christmas.  Imagine a Christmas card free of credit card debt and much of the stress that comes with it.

I will be sharing the contents of this book with my husband.  Working together, we can use this book to help us take a step in reaching our goal of paying down our credit cards by not using them for Christmas!

The ideas in this book can also be used for setting limits and saving cash for birthdays that come year round.

Other books I’ve read by Mary Hunt include 7 Money Rules for Life {How to Take Control of Your Financial Future} and Raising Financially Confident Kids.

Disclosure:  I received a copy of the book from Revell in exchange for my honest review.  Available September 2012 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.

About the Book

Have a Very Debt-Proof Christmas

Christmas may be the most wonderful time of year, but it’s also one of the most stressful and most expensive. Americans spend billions, crafting the perfect holiday season complete with lavish meals, new decorations and the latest, greatest gadgets and fashions for everyone on their gift list. Most don’t think about the hefty price tag until the credit card bill comes in January, and many will go thousands of dollars deeper into debt to finance the perfect holiday season.

For anyone who wants to have a less stressful, more joyful holiday season and celebrate without breaking the bank, syndicated personal finance columnist Mary Hunt is here to help.

“Here’s my challenge for you,” writes Hunt. “This Christmas, lock up the credit cards and let me show you how to experience the best Christmas ever with no debt, less stress, and more joy!”

In Debt-Proof Your Christmas Hunt helps readers assess their financial situation, commit to no new debt and think creatively about their gift list. With her guidance, readers will identify what has caused them to overspend in the past and approach this holiday season with a plan and a new attitude toward holiday spending. This just might be the best gift you can give yourself and your family.
