Toss New Year’s Resolutions! One Word Focus for 2014

January 12

How many of your New Year Resolutions do you reach each year?

I never reach those resolutions I make at the start of each year, not even the ones I disguise as goals.

  • I didn’t lose the weight.
  • I didn’t read my Bible everyday with  my children.
  • I didn’t declutter my house.
  • I didn’t  reach the elusive perfection so many of us strive for.

There’s a buzz going around about choosing one word or one Scripture to focus on for the year.   I’ve been thinking on my for about four months  now.   You see, I’ve been complaining for over a year now — finding fault with so many things.  I don’t want to be that way anymore.  I want to choose gratitude because I am blessed in so many ways.

One Word 2014: Gratitude

There is not a verse in the Bible that contains the word gratitude, but there are so many verses that teach that concept.   I will be doing a topical study to find those verses and apply them in my daily living and attitude.

It won’t be easy, but I believe it’s the one thing that can benefit my life – and those around me – more than any goal I’ve set before.

Will you join me?   If you’ve already chosen your one word focus for 2014, share it with me.    If not, it’s not too late to start.  You’ll find some inspiration for choosing your word here.

Gratitude is an important concept for us to remember and to teach our children.

Grattitude for me is a life mantra, although sometimes its more difficult to follow:D I’m choosing to add “prosperity” to my life in 2014.

I love this exercise. I started with it last year and my word was ACTION. This year I had to choose 3 🙂

Gratitude is a beautiful choice of word!

I actually just read another blog about this same topic. She chose 3 words instead of 2, however. Her words fit me very well and I would like to share them with you: CLARITY, CONSISTENCY and COMPLETION (with a strong emphasis on the consistency for me!). I have so many problems just rushing into things, getting all excited, not really having any clue what I’m doing, and then just moving onto the next exciting thing. So this year, I plan to change that using these 3 words!

What a great word to strive for. My word of the year is “balance”, as I have a great need to balance all of my fears, worries, excitement, chores, jobs, relationships, etc. so I can be in a better place for myself and my family.

Mine has been LOVE! I tend to not allow myself to get too close to any one person, so I keep distant friends. I miss out on knowing about them too deeply and that hurts me. So to LOVE this year and open up so I can be there for those I love.

I don’t treat the new year any differently than I treat the rest of the year. I strive to eat, drink, and be merry – in other words I strive to be in good spirits at all time! Good luck with your new focus!

Gratitude is a great word to focus on! It is SO easy to forget all that we are blessed with daily.

My word is LOVE. By that I mean to actually not push people away when they get too close. I have the shy gene and it makes me appear unappethetic at times.

Great Post! I most recently listened to “The Think & Grow Rich” morning mindset call and Paul talked about this. Having an attitude of gratitude. It was very enlightening and so is this post.
    Thank you for sharing!

I like this idea. It’s a great to have a goal to work towards. I think I may just steal this idea, and focus on being grateful for what I have this year 🙂

It is good to continue to think of this… a focus to do or be better

I am new to the concept of a focus word or 3 focus words. I chose Community, & Gratitude. I am focused on growing in those areas.
