I’m sure all of us married folk want a dream marriage. In reality, marriage is tough and takes work. However, when that effort we put into it doesn’t work, we are left discouraged. I spent the first part of my marriage discouraged and almost hopeless.
However, with God’s hand in the marriage once I finally let Him in, things began to improve. After reading The Marriage of Your Dreams: A Woman’s Guide in Understanding Her Man recently, I can relate to some of those things in the past that were destroying my marriage. I’m thankful that God had showed me a different way to handle them. I also see the reasons behind some things that are happening within my marriage now (of 17 years).
Seeing a man’s perspective – the author – gives me insight for understanding my husband’s perspective. I hope to use his suggestions to improve myself as a wife. I think the section I read that I could stand to improve on the most is communication. No wonder my husband is frustrated with me at times! I’m not the best communicator!
I believe this book would benefit married women in have anywhere from a troubled marriage to blissful marriage. There’s always room for improvement, right?!?
Also, if you’re a mother or plan to be a mother of a son, this book will give you some great insight on your relationship with him and how it affects him when it comes to his future bride.
Scripture translations used in this book include NIV and NKJV.
I received this book from Revell in exchange for my honest review and it’s available October 2012 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.
About the Book
Understanding Your Man is Key to Building a Dream Marriage
Bestselling Marriage Expert Explains How Men Think & What They Need From Their Wives
As bestselling relationship expert Rick Johnson spoke across the country, women continuously asked him how they could be better wives and fulfill their husbands’ needs when they weren’t entirely sure what his needs were. Johnson sensed a growing frustration in women not understanding what their husbands needed from them. What grew out of those questions is Johnson’s newest book, which gives women a look at the core of a man to understand how he thinks, how he operates and what motivates him.
The Marriage of Your Dreams: A Woman’s Guide to Understanding Her Manfocuses on how a woman can satisfy and support the needs of her man – by first identifying his needs. It will help women understand her man’s sexual needs and how his job affects the rest of his life. The book will help her encourage his emotional growth, recognize common traps most men fall into, encourage him as a father and know what men admire and desire most in their wife.
“A woman has tremendous God-given power to influence a man’s life, positively or negatively,” writes Johnson. “By understanding how to best use their powerful influence, women can encourage their husbands and build a satisfying and exciting relationship.”
Before outlining the book, Johnson surveyed a wide number of women, asking what they wanted to know about men. The Marriage of Your Dreams addresses those questions and explains what a man needs from his wife. Johnson draws from his own marriage of 30 years as well as the perspective of men who he surveyed. He ends each chapter with open and honest answers to questions he’s received from real woman about their own marriages.
In 2001, Johnson founded Better Dads, based on the urgent need to empower men to lead and serve in their families and communities. Recently recognized at a White House ceremony for his work with Better Dads, Johnson is passionate about teaching father skills and equipping both men and women to become better parents, spouses and leaders.
