VeggieTales Every Day With God: 365 Daily Devos for Boys & Girls

October 8

I enjoy reading. I want to pass this passion on to my children. My youngest is showing a great interest in books and I hope it sticks with him. With that said, I want my children to be even more passionate about their relationship with their Savior Jesus Christ. Sadly, I get too busy some days to read my Bible. I can’t share my passion for God and His Word if I am not reading it, right?!?

Being given a free copy of a devotional for boys, I have found a way to get in a little of God’s Word with my child.  The devotional is gender specific with the messages written either for a boy or girl. It takes the reader through 365 days of one page devotional messages consisting of:

A short Bible verse – This devotional references the King James Version and several man made translations of the Bible. I always pull my Bible out to read the KJV scripture.  It’s also good to read directly from your Bible to show your child that it is the ultimate source of God’s written word.

A short message – The message gives some commentary on what the Bible scripture says. It sometimes gives a modern day story to emphasize the meaning behind the message.  Kids love stories so this really helps the child to listen and take in what the lesson behind the story.

A thought for the day – This is a one or two sentence prompting you (your child) to move or act on what was just read.

A prompt to pray  – It leads with “Dear God” and gives a short prayer that parent can pray with the child.

While this book is intended for children ages 4-10, my child is 3 1/2. He will definitely grow into this book as he learns to sit longer and eventually read. We did best with the book when I read it to myself first while he played then talked to him about it while he sat on my lap. I also let him ‘help me find the verse’ in the Bible.

LOVE VeggieTales – when the “Jonah” movie was around a few years back, I think I was one of the few over 40 who went to see it – and LOVED it!

We always had family devotions when our kids were growing up. Now with just our 22 year old daughter still at home and we all have our individual devotions, we gather together on Sunday evening for scripture and to pray for the week ahead.

Thanks for the review. My kids are all grown, but I am glad to see that Veggie Tales is still finding creative ways to spread God’s Word.

I love doing devotions with my boys. Right now we usually read a story from The Jesus Storybook Bible and then sing a hymn or other song before bed.

Thanks for sharing this, Tami. However, right now I am reading through the actual Bible with my kids. I was just convicted they needed to hear the actual Word of God cover-to-cover more than devotional thoughts on it. Still, it’s a great resource!
