Girls Gone Wise In A World Gone Wild

July 24

Most women will not like this book.  I found parts that I didn’t like either.  Why?  Simply because it pricked the heart.  God insists on purity and I’m ashamed to admit that while I habitually look disgustedly at women showing their cleavage, I have some impurities of my own to confess.

I encourage all women and teenage girls to read this book.  Read it with your mind open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance.  Go to Scripture.  Hear what God is saying.

The author takes us through 20 points of contract, comparing the wise girl to the worldly girl.   She encourages us to take a look at our heart, our habits, our speech, and our teachability, to name a few.

The Scripture used in the book include the ESV, NIV NKJV, KJV, HCSB, and the NET Bible.

Book Summary:

Girls Gone Wise in a World Gone Wild

Inundated by popular culture, many women have lost their bearings and no longer trust the internal compass that intuitively affirms those things that are good, true, and noble about womanhood.  And as Jesus’ favorite and most powerful teaching tactic was the parable, it is appropriate that Mary Kassian walks the reader through the compelling tale of the wild versus wise woman found in Proverbs 7.

By using 20 points of contrast, the reader will be able to discern the difference between wild and wise.  And then evaluate her own direction – is she living as a wise, biblically savvy woman?  Or has she bought into the one our culture holds as ideal – the wild woman?

Girls Gone Wise in a World Gone Wild will captivate, convict, and challenge women to become decreasingly wild and increasingly wise.  Includes questions for personal reflection at the end of each chapter.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

MARY KASSIAN is an award winning author, internationally renowned speaker, and a distinguished professor at Southern Baptist Seminary. She has published several books and Bible studies, including The Feminist Mistake. A graduate from the faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine from the University of Alberta, Canada, Mary has also studied systematic theology at the doctoral level and taught courses at seminaries throughout North America.

    Have you been following along on the True Woman blog? They’ve been doing a chapter-by-chapter video blog/Bible study using that book. I don’t have this book, but I’d love to get my hands on it someday. I love the whole “counter-cultural woman” idea ~ even though it’s hard on the conscience and sometimes tough to live by. I’m workin’ at it!! I have been so encouraged by the Revive Our Hearts ministry and their focus on godly femininity and what God wants for (and from!) wives and mothers.

      @Tammy S,
      You’re welcome! The only thing I don’t like about the free printable questions is that it’s going to take a good amount of color ink. I converting it to text, so hopefully with a little bit of work, I won’t have to use the color ink.
