It’s been awhile since I read a fiction book. I do not know why I ever stopped. (Well, I do. I got too busy.)
Reading the book mentioned below, I have fallen in love with historical fiction all over again. I got close to a couple of the characters in the book. I haven’t decided who was my favorite character, Aunt Bertha or Lydia. They both with their own personalities were women I’d love to be friends with now. My heart ached for both of them as they struggled with their own losses.

Then there was a little mystery in the book. I kept guessing who was behind it all as I got closer to the end. I had guessed who the culprit was, but I had also assumed it might be three other characters in the book. (Guess I probably wouldn’t win a game of Clue, huh?!?) The author did an excellent job of stringing me along.
I hated the ending for two of the characters. Despite those endings, the story worked out to show you how God’s hand is in everything and how deserving His glory is. I always enjoy books that invite God into the characters lives. Although fiction, I invite all reminders to seek out and praise God in my own life.
Not only is this the beginning of a series, the book stems from another series. I can’t wait to go back and read the first set, as well as read the next book in this series. Amanda Cabot, you have found yourself a new fan!
