Pile of Books Reading Challenge {September 2014}
I love books! Do you like books as much as I do? Do you like to be challenged? I am challenging myself {and you} to pick up a book or two and read them.
I spent the last four months not reading. I am looking forward to getting my hands on some books! During the month of September 2014, I am choosing one book for each each area of my life:

Spirit, Soul & Mind Reading Challenge:
I studied my way through 15 Minutes Alone with God by Emilie Barnes several years ago when my teenagers were elementary age. I really think I need to go back to the basics with my Bible reading and time with God. So, this is what I’ll be reading from each day to reform a habit of daily time with God.
Marriage Reading Challenge:
Celebrating 19 years of marriage, you’d think all of the kinks would be worked out in a marriage. That’s not true. We are both human with feelings and sometimes we forget to put the other’s needs ahead of our own. We’ve had some bumps since the birth of our baby (who is nearing his 2nd birthday) and the four months of campaigning and the loss of a job. I am going to read 31 Days to a Happy Husband: What a Man Needs Most from His Wife a second time. I read it once before to write a review. Skimming through it tonight, I realize most of it didn’t sink in. A second read is in order! Read the first chapter for free.
Motherhood Reading Challenge:
I’ve had my eye on the book Hands Free Mama: A Guide to Putting Down the Phone, Burning the To-Do List, and Letting Go of Perfection to Grasp What Really Matters!, but hadn’t committed to buying it just yet. A friend of mine made a FB post about it and it really caught my attention. I grabbed up a discounted copy from the bookstore when my mom-in-law took me shopping for my birthday. I love to go to the bookstore and she shares that passion with me!
Fitness & Healthier Habits Reading Challenge:
The 21 Day Fix reading materials including the Eating Plan and the Coach Welcome Book. (Yes, I’ve joined BeachBody.) I’ve already started reading some of it, but I want to make sure I read all of it. I am wanting to make changes in my life and improving my physical health is one of them. Go me!
Financial & Working Outside the Home (as well as Blogging & Other Interests) Reading Challenge:
I’m currently looking for employment. While doing so, I’m also looking for ways to make a few bucks to get us through until that call comes that I’m hired. Flipping through The Bootstrap VA: The Go-Getter’s Guide to Becoming a Virtual Assistant, Getting and Keeping Clients, and More ebook, I see some good stuff for someone wanting to work from home.
Fiction & Fun:
I looooove reading Christian historical fiction, such as Here Burns My Candle, which is my favorite fiction read, but I think I’m going to save my downtime to watch football with my hubby. No, I won’t sit down for every game he watches, but I do plan on spending some of the games sitting beside him just enjoying him and the game.
Maybe next month there will be some time for a fictional escape.
I may not get them all read, since this is a lofty goal, but I’ll have fun trying. One book would be an accomplishment at this point, since I haven’t read a complete book in awhile.
Join the reading challenge this month! What are you reading this month? I challenge you to make a list of books you’ve been wanting to read and do it! (Leave a comment below.)
This compilation of books may include books I’ve purchased, received free of charge or in exchange for an honest review. Affiliate links are included, at no additional cost to you, to help fund the cost of this blog.

What a great list of books! Thank you for sharing 🙂 I love books too! Shared:)
This is awesome! I will have to get a list together.
Let me know when you get your list together. I’d love to read it.
That one about the hands free mama sounds awesome!
just setting a goal to even read 15 min a day would be a miracle for me 😀
I would love to read the one about the Bootstrap VA. Great reading material for sure if you are a blogger. 🙂 Prayers for the job hunting. You will do great. You have a beautiful blog here and lots of talent. 🙂 Blessings!
Hey Tami
Great challenge and a great set of books to read. Have read a few parent books in the past as we adopted two russian teenage boys.
I have just started to read Malcolm Gladwell David and Goliath.
Andy
Good for you!
It’s funny – I began my blogging “career” as a book blogger (kind of). I read an enormous amount of books (when I am in a reading mood) but the second I do any kind of challenge- I lose my desire to read. LOL
Enjoy your challenge! So many great books!!!
Honestly, a bunch of spy novels, and then there’s The Broken Eye by Brent Weeks. I love fantasy!
I need to read more storybooks with the littles though.
My list includes several graphic novels, a book about Minecraft, and a book about junior engineers – trying to get my 11-year-old son back into reading so we are reading together!
I’m definitely a book person! I have to read before I go bed or I have trouble falling asleep. But in these last few years I have been sticking to mainly fiction. I’m reading Shanghai Girls by Lisa See right now, very good!
I love reading! I just need more time for it!
I’ve had my eye on the Hands Free Mama book too!
I am honestly not a reader, but my wife and kids are.. i will forward them this post!
I LOVE reading and can’t wait to get back once I find my rhythm and get settle down from motherhood 🙂
