As with any commentary or book, one must compare it’s opinions and so called facts to the Bible itself to determine its worth. Mostly commentaries are put together by the author’s own opinion based on research he or she has done.
I found the commentary and notes within the Henry Morris Study Bible to be helpful in understanding the background of various parts of Scripture. The commentary and explanatory notes included:
- Scripture references to other parts of the Bible that supported what was being shared.
- History or pieces of information from previous parts of the Bible that summarized needed information for Scripture that was currently being read.
I’m not much of a history reader, so parts of the Bible do ‘lose me’. Having the extra information helps me understand what I am reading and keeps me from just running through the words to say without taking it in.
Within the text of the Scripture itself are related Scripture references, as well as definitions for various words.
