I have been guilty of worrying about what others moms (and people in general) think of my parenting. I feel like a failure more times than not. Yet, I know I should be parenting according to God’s standards, not the culture’s standards. I received a copy of (un)Natural Mom: Why You Are the Perfect Mom for Your Kids to review in exchange for my honest review. I have to say this book really helped me reevaluate what I think of myself as a mother.

Not only has the book reminded me let go of the need for approval, it has helped me to be “me”, the person God created me to be, as I parent my children using my own parenting style. According to the profiling test referred to in this book, I am a Boxwood Tree mom, as well as a Box-Rose nurturer. As I reading about this parenting style, I saw myself in a lot of the characteristics. I also felt a sense of relief, knowing that not all moms parent alike, nor is one parenting style better than the next.
As God has told us, we are made in His creation and given a spiritual gift not necessarily the same as the person next to us. I love that I can let go of trying to obtain that picture perfect mold of motherhood and be “me”. That means that being a supermom doesn’t exist. Yay! That also means that I can embrace my capabilities as well as my challenges as a mother of three.
