Doing My Part | Five Minute Friday

Women in pink shirt holding a handwritten sign that says 'do your part'.

I haven’t been doing my part in my role as mom-educator. I’ve relied too much on other people: their methods, opinions, and all that. I haven’t done for my son the things that my gut (well, um, probably the Holy Spirit) was telling me to do. Okay, I have done some of it, but I’ve let myself become too dependent on Facebook groups and Instagram feeds to lead me down a path that has not been the best one. We could’ve made so much more progress had I chosen a path and stuck with it. Trying to do it all and trying to find the perfect system or homeschool plan or mesh together all the so so good systems and advice out there has only led to defeat and chaos.

I was never taught to think for myself. I always leaned on other people’s opinions in all areas of my life, not just homeschooling my kiddo. I’m done with that. Thanks to Schole Sisters and a few awesome books, I’m learning how to lean in to what the Holy Spirit and my own smarts as a mother are telling me to do for MY son.

Timer’s up! Yes, I set a timer for 5 minutes and typed what was on my mind prompted from the Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt Link Up. Can you guess what the word prompt is?

  1. Blessings to you! Homeschooling is a challenge, but an opportunity to guide your son. My heart goes out to parents. My daughters have wrestled with the best choices for their children.
