Girls Uncovered: What America’s Sexual Culture Does to Young Women
I want my children to remain pure. What parent doesn’t? Sadly many don’t care or are clueless. Looking back at my own teen years, although I was considered a good girl, I wasn’t exactly a good girl. Temptations come in many forms that don’t seem so bad at the time.
I am trying to give my children the atmosphere and raising they need to remain pure and live a life for Christ in this world by:
- keeping them in church
- trying to get in some Bible reading and prayer
- disciplining them for incorrect behavior and attitudes
- telling them that having boy/girl friends only leads to one thing, which needs to wait for marriage
- teaching and modeling modesty
- and other things
However, I am not perfect in any of these areas. I have slipped so many ways. I think I’m doing a fair job…until I read this book.
I have been deceived into allowing things in my children’s lives that will move them further down the road of making impure and lustful decisions. A few seemingly innocent television programs were discussed in this book. Guess what! I didn’t realize that they were full of things that will lead my children down a destructive path of impurity. I don’t want this for my children.
While this book was not written in a finger-pointing manner, it has provided so much information for the parent and young adult in training. Parents, educate yourselves, so that you are fully prepared to tackle the huge and very important task of parenting. This book will educate you on:
- Statistics that are more than just numbers – Know the real life odds of your child becoming pregnant or not reaching his or her goal of a college degree.
- Sexually transmitted infections and diseases – Yes, it could happen to your child and some of these are transmitted easier than you think.
- Emotional attachments – There is an actual body chemical that bonds two people together when they’ve been intimate and another that causes a person to trust someone they’ve hugged longer than 20 seconds.
- Lies that are misleading our girls – Find out who society has mislead our girls and maybe us? As I said before, I have realized that some of my own thinking and parenting needs to be adjusted because of these lies.
- Knowing what your children are doing – That may mean a decision on your part allowing no more cell phones, which allow for messages and pictures that can be kept private from you, the parent.
- Spiritual matters are important – Yes, God is an important factor in raising children and teenagers. The more your child is involved in spiritual activities, the less likely he or she will make some unwise decisions. Plus, isn’t that our goal as parents – to raise children to love and serve the Lord with all their hearts? If not, it should be.

Thanks so much for this review. It’s now on my reading list! Raising daughters isn’t easy, and I need all the help I can get!
@Susan DiMickele, Raising a daughter is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done and she’s just now 13 – such a difficult time.
This book sound fantastic. The author has really hit the nail on the head. Satan has deceived parents into accepting worldly influences because they are the “norm” today and they don’t want their children to be “left out”. For many years my heart has been burdened about this. The cells phones really jumped out as it has broken my heart to see how many kids have been drawn into sin by having the privilage without accountablity. Satan has lied making parents believe kids need privacy in areas they need protection, sometimes even from themselves.
You have blessed others by sharing about this book with your readers. Great job as always!
@Moonpie, That’s one reason I decided the kiddos didn’t need their cell phones anymore. Daughter is still contesting itl 🙂
