A Shift in Focus for a New Decade
For this week’s Five Minute Friday, I’m writing about my recent shift in focus.
I’ve spent my entire life people-pleasing. Actually, I thought I was pleasing people, but I was only doing what I thought others expected of me. I’ve wasted a lot of time doing what I thought was the right thing to do.
This terrible habit bled into my blogging. I used to write about books, reading and anything else that sparked my creativity. Then, I tried to follow the path of other bloggers — monetizing and strategizing their way.
All that did was cause a drought in my writing. Years with only a handful of posts. Sad.
So, I’m shifting my focus…
I’m shifting my energies back toward creative writing, writing for my pure enjoyment. If nobody reads my blog, w-h-o c-a-r-e-s. I’m writing for one [me]– and you, if you’re interested. No more granted external expectations or trying to write to please the algorithms or whatever is making the rules these days. I’m making a shift in focus as I enter this new decade.

Yeah, I turned 50 this week.
I thought the best way to get my keyboard warmed up would be to join the FMF Writing Prompt Linkup.
If you’re interested in helping me celebrate my 50th birthday, here’s my wish list. I want to learn to paint with watercolors this year.
