Coming Home for Christmas

Each year I am saddened by the expectations people have during a holiday that is supposed to be about Jesus’ birth. Last year at Christmas, it hit me the hardest. The materialism around the holiday left me not wanting to celebrate Christmas at all.

We did but it was not from a spirit of joy. I don’t want this year be like that. I want to rediscover the joy that is supposed to come from Christ.

Given the opportunity by FrontGate Media, I was able to read a book that helped me bounce back more joyful than ever. Take a look! It’s ‘Coming Home for Christmas’ by Matthew West. That’s right! One of my favorite Christian music artists wrote this book.

He took me through childhood memories and traditions, as well as those he continued with his own children. He helped me see what I was missing out on by not creating meaningful memories with my own kids. Moreso, he showed me where the true joy lies — with Jesus and Christmas.

I did a quick read for the purpose of this book review, but now I am rereading the book at a slower pace with my 12 year old. I want him to enjoy Christmas for the right reasons and to have Christ’s joy in his life. We will be reading it every Christmas season going forward to remind us both the importance of ‘coming home for Christmas’.

If you’re looking for a way to slow down and refocus this Christmas season, Come Home for Christmas is the perfect companion. Matthew West combines humor, storytelling, and biblical truth to help you reconnect with God during one of the busiest times of the year. Each chapter invites you to see Christmas as a meaningful homecoming—a chance to step into the kingdom reality made possible through Jesus’ birth. Don’t let the holidays pass in a blur; let this book inspire a season of true joy and purpose.

Grab a copy for yourself and for the special people in your life. It’s a small easy read with thoughtful questions at the end of each chapter.
