Fairy tales are intriguing but I honesty saw no connection to my relationship with Jesus. So the title of the book I’m sharing with you today intrigued me. Jesus and the Beanstalk? How fictional was this book gonna get? That’s what I honestly thought.
The rest of the title Overcoming Your Giants and Living a Fruitful Life was just what I needed in my life right now. I have some giants that are looming over me and I feel like I can’t defeat them. So, I thought, this book is worth checking out.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Affiliate links are included in this post.
I was wrong. There is nothing fictional about facing our giants and involving Jesus Christ. I enjoyed and understood the concept the author used of the beanstalk in relation to how we live.
There are three parts to this book:
Part 1 shows us how Jack and the Beanstalk can help us apply 2 Peter 1:1-10 to our lives.
Part 2 teaches about attitudes expectations leading to spiritual growth, as well as improving effectiveness in outreach and ministry.
Part 3 takes you through a six-day mini-study for each of the qualities presented in this book: Faith | Godliness | Affection for Others | Love | Perseverance | Goodness | Knowledge | Self-Control
I definitely walked away from my reading chair with a renewed perspective on facing my giants and growing in these underdeveloped qualities. I am not guilt-ridden but encouraged that I can be more faithful, self-controlled and loving as I take this journey as a child of God. Outreach has been lacking in my personal life, so I am looking forward to adding that back in, as well.
This is one of those few books I have highlighted so much of the book that I have mostly yellow pages. I do recommend it as a book to have beside your favorite reading chair.
