Marriage does matter!
It’s something God created, so it’s got to be good! Yet, the world says otherwise.
I’ve enjoyed reading the book Marriage Matters. It was a refresher to read the basics of marriage which I knew from reading God’s Word. It also looked at marriage and scripture from this author’s point of view, ways I had never thought of, but left me with even greater hope and encouragement.
I could see clips of my own marriage as I read through this book, which means I can give testament to a lot of what this author shares. My marriage has seen the blessings of allowing God into a marriage that was a self-service station for the longest time! Sadly, it’s early years were working ground for the devil’s lies and efforts to destroy a marriage. Thank God, my Savior, for keeping us together, until we finally listened to Him!
I do recommend this book. It is well-rounded to encourage both the trouble marriage and the stronger marriage, both the husband and the wife.
Marriages today are deteriorating at an alarming rate: As of 2003, 43.7% of custodial mothers and 56.2% of custodial fathers were either separated or divorced (US Census Bureau). One might ask, “Why do so many marriages fail?” According to pastor and teacher Tony Evans, marriages deteriorate not because we no longer get along, but because we have lost sight of the purpose and prosperity of the marriage covenant.
Marriage Matters examines the nature of this covenant, or agreement, we enter into on our wedding day. This booklet provides the foundation for the booklets For Married Women Only, as Evans looks to the Scriptures to define what a covenant is, who makes it, and what the implications are. Chaos arises when we seek to do things our way—the need to align ourselves according to biblical standards of marriage is evident. Let the practical and engaging Tony Evans lead you in knowing just how much…Marriage Matters.
The author has two more books, For Married Men Only and For Married Women Only, which he has written as continuations of this book. They go into further detail, specifically for each partner. I haven’t read them, but I will be ordering the one for the wife.

May 23 at 4:48 pmAlmost 38 1/2 years. “Till death do us part”. Marriage is for life not matter how bad the bad gets. The only way your marriage can fail is if you give up and quit. Divorce is not an option.
