Does the Bible apply to the working women? What does Proverbs 31 say about women leading?
“The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” Titus 2:3-5
Are you a working woman? Stick with me then. Does the above verse or your church body make you feel guilty for working outside the home? Do you feel like you can’t succeed because you are made to feel like you don’t belong in the workplace? Do you feel like you can’t live a life for God because you are working?
I’ve been there. It’s really difficult.
I do believe that I should be at home with my children, as that is God’s design for mothers. Yet, we live in a fallen world. We live in a world where so much is required of us that we are forced to work outside the home to make ends meet or to give our kids that things that they need. Some of us even work for the enjoyment of completing the job. I know I find pleasure in some of my tasks at work.
While Real Women Leading with Proverbs 31 Values isn’t a book about the Titus 2 working mom debate, it does help a working mom, like myself, understand who she is in Christ and what she can do for Christ as a woman on the job, especially in a role of leadership. This book takes Proverbs 31 and dissects it as I’ve never seen it dissected before. The author really spoke to me in a way that I felt like she knew me at home and on the job. As she walked me through the 10 key principles, I felt an understanding arm around my shoulder as we discussed the value of understanding people and other principles.

Now, as I just said, the book really spoke to me about my job outside the home. It shed the deception Satan put on me about my place inside/outside the home and allowed me to start living a life full of these values. Those values are important not only in my workplace, but in my daily life at home – interacting with my husband and children, as well as in the church – interacting with my pastor, my church sisters and others.
