I recently read a book titled Piece de Resistance, wondering just what did the title of this book mean?!? I didn’t know a lick of French! Was I supposed to know the meaning ahead of time? No way! The author gives hints to what it means in the pages of the book, and it fits perfectly with the characters and the story in the book. It reminded me of a treasure hunt, as I picked up clues as to what where the story was going in relation to the title and its unknown meaning.
I love to read, and hadn’t read a fiction book in a few years now. I don’t seem to have time to read fiction when I have so many unread non-fiction books that will help me with real life! However, I was offered a complimentary copy of the book, so why not take a break to enjoy some fiction. Yet, after reading this book, I realized, a little clean fiction, is just what I need from time to time! So, I will definitely be reading more Christian fiction in the near future.
When I first accepted to review this book, I did not know that it was the third book in a series. I had not read the first two books, so when I read that there were two previous books, I wondered if I would even enjoy the book. I did! The author did a great job in writing to book to carry itself. It’s almost like making a new friend this year. You have a relationship from this point forward, learning bits and pieces of her past as time goes on, but not having to know it all.
There were a few things in the book that I don’t believe a christian should participate in. The two that come to my mind was the main character drinking wine and another character having a tattoo. However, looking in the light of our sin nature, it is real life that we as christians do make bad choices like these, equaling sin. So, I know to portray each character in the book as perfect, would not be right either, as the only perfect righteous being in our lives is Jesus Christ and His Father. So, the mention of these two things in the book didn’t change my view of the book.
It was a worthwhile read because it dealt with a woman’s journey to getting back into God’s Word and seeking His guidance in her life. She reminded me of me in some ways. She was a woman that desired God’s direction in her life, yet didn’t understand how she’d get there. I can feel so lost at times, yet there is a peace, simply because I know that God is holding me through it all, even through my stupid mistakes.
Something I’d like to point out is that it is a love story, and there was no premarital intimacy, other than a few kisses! That excited me, because so many books out there focus on the ‘s’ word. I think that was my favorite discovery in the book!
Another great thing about the book is that you get a few free recipes inside the book! The book is about a bakery chef and she shares her creations with you!
