“Is there a gap between you and your dream?”
“Whether you want to start a business, raise a family, run a marathon, plant a church, restore a relationship, or climb a mountain, you can take practical steps to see your vision come to be.”
That’s what you’ll find written on the back of the book {afflink} “Vision Map: Charting a Step-by-Step Course for Your Biggest Hopes and Dreams” that I received free from Moody Publishers. The steps I took in writing out my goals were similar to the ones in this book. So, was the book a waste of my time? Definitely not. It actually helped me realize the essentials parts of goal planning that I was leaving out. I was able to refine my goals by:
Acknowledging my own shortcomings within my vision map. That’s right. It’s my own fault that I am not reaching my goals. I am not capable of reaching my goals all alone.
Trusting in God for the steps within my vision map that surpass those shortcomings. Some of the steps needed to reach my goal require God. There are things that just aren’t humanly possible.
Pushing me past my comfort zone to involve other people in my vision map. We need people both to share our vision with and to hold us accountable.
The vision map does two things: allows you to see your vision in writing and narrows your broad goal into small and specific steps.
The author was quite fascinating, in my opinion. Better yet, his vision was fascinating and unique. This is the first time for me to read anything written by him. I am putting his other two books on my wish list :: Be Brave: 4 Keys to Courageous Living and Live Extraordinary: A Not-So-Ordinary 31-Day Devotional.
While I’d love to share you the entire process of writing and and putting into action your vision, I just can’t because I’d end up sharing the entire book’s contents. (That’s a no no.) The book is a short read, yet a worthy read , so read it.
The book includes the ESV and NIV translations. (I looked up and read the scripture in my KJV.)
So, tell me :: What is your vision? Have you made a vision map for your goals?

I have so many dreams and goals in my life, i need guidance from Jesus to help me fulfill those.
Sounds like a great book!
That looks like it may be very interesting…
Thanks for this awesome review. I love writing out my goals and my vision. I have my purpose at the top of the page each year and I have 5 key values that I are important to me. Then I break everything down into categories and smaller steps. My year verse is Phil 2:5 – “Have this same attitude in yourselves that was in Christ Jesus.”
This looks very interesting. Thanks for sharing. – Amy

I like this idea of breaking it down and realizing that you will actually need more help from God to achieve certain things! I’m sure this book could help to navigate some bigger goals that I have as well. Thanks! I’ll add it to my wish list and next time I’m looking for a book, I’ll check it out!
I suppose my vision is pretty straightforward: strive to be a faithful husband, father, and pastor. I don’t feel like I necessarily set out with too many long-term goals besides those.
Thanks so much for this review! I love setting goals (and reaching them)! As my husband and I are making big plans in the upcoming years, I’ll look into this book!
That sounds like a great book. I have been thinking quite a bit about my vision and I still don’t feel like I quite know at this time what that is. I might have to look at this book.
