Day 5: Pantry Makeover #sisterhoodshots

Have you ever done a cleanse?

I attempted a cleanse in August only to spend my first afternoon vomiting up everything I had consumed.  I had ate healthy all day long, but it just was too much change for my body.  I am not saying cleanses should be avoided.  This particular cleanse was fruits, veggies and lean protein.   It was just a shock to my system, I am assuming.

I bought a lot health foods to prepare for this cleanse.  Most of it came from Vitacost.com (where you can get $10.00 of free vitamins, food or hygiene products).

As you can see in the picture, there is a variety and I don’t want it to waste.

I need your help.

Take a look.  Tell me how you use any (or all) of these in your daily diet (way of eating). I want to eat healthy but I want to take it slow.  Maybe a new food or recipe a few times per week until I’ve transitioned from an unhealthy diet to a healthy lifestyle my body can appreciate.

So, tell me how you use each of these…

Coconut Oil

Coconut Milk

Virgin Olive Oil

Shredded Coconut

Canned Salmon

Pumpkin Seeds

Organic Diced Tomatoes

Raw Honey

Apple Cider Vinegar

Dried Cranberries

  1. You could probably make some great granola bars with the honey, pumpkin seeds, coconut, cranberries, and, possibly, some granola. Or, if you omit the honey, you could make a trail mix.

Look at allrecipes.com for other ideas. You can type in an ingredient in the search bar and it’ll pop up some great ideas for you.

  2. I would try and find recipes for my slow cooker. Get it prepared first thing in the morning and then forget about it until dinner time. Good luck!

  3. The coconut oil I use for cleaning make up off my face LOL. But I also use it in smoothies. The one I get tastes like toasted coconut so sometimes I just eat a spoonful! Coconut milk, not to often because it is soooo expensive but when I do I just drink it. Olive oil for salad dressings, and making pesto. Canned salmon, I use for salmon croquettes. Pumpkin seeds just a snack. Diced tomatoes many many recipes, mexican casseroles, soups, stews, honey in tea, coffee on cereal. Would use it to bake with but it is way too expensive. Dried cranberries I use in baked goods and love them on salads. Apple cider vinegar, Braggs of course!, I use for salad dressings mainly or drink a tablespoon in hot water with honey and lemon.

  4. You are blessed indeed. I would use the Salmon for Salmon Cakes. Tomatoes would be the base for a soup or stew. Coconut Oil -skinny chocolate! It takes a bit of time to transition but you will make it.

  5. I’ve been using coconut oil for most cooking ~ 5 years, and olive oil w/my vinegar / lemon juice etc for salads, also pesto, etc …
I make coconut milk kefir, and use that like sour creme or yogurt.

    1. Do you have a recipe for the coconut milk kefir, Nadya?
