Fall Family Activities Indoors and Outdoors

September 27

Does your family have fall family traditions?

We are right on the heels of the fall season with the first signs already showing their faces. Most notably, the return of pumpkin spice-flavored everything, and fall decorations being in stores over a month early. This change in season is a perfect time to start some new family activities and traditions! Watching the leaves change color is a great way to enjoy the splendor of God’s creation. The change in color is a sign of the times changing. Here are some great ways to make the most of this time of year with your family.

Fall Family Activities: Outdoor Staples

Break out the flannels and scarves and make an outdoor checklist to embark on some activities that you can only truly get the full experience of at this time of year!

  • Go Apple Picking at an Orchard – Picking Apples at the prime time of year is a fun experience for the whole family! The kids will love picking their own apples. Making homemade pies and other apple treats with the day’s harvest that you picked together is a great way to bring those memories home.
  • Explore a Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch – Finding your way through a winding corn maze in the crisp autumn air is the perfect setting for fall outdoor fun! Some corn mazes offer hayrides or petting zoos as well! Picking out your own pumpkins that you can bring home for baking with is another festive fun activity! We usually go to at least two every fall.
  • Visit a Cider Mill – Cider Mills make fresh hot apple cider and homemade donuts. Visiting one is a cozy and fun experience that captures the splendor of fall perfectly.

The best part is that many places offer several of these fall activities at one location. You can even plan a little fall day trip with the family one weekend. Make it a whole day experience the kids can look forward to for years ahead!

This redesign gives it a comfy and welcoming feeling that can last until it’s time to bring out the Christmas decorations. Make it into a fun family activity creating decorations with the kiddos! A lot of great fall craft ideas can be made easily with stuff from home and will give your home a festive touch that your kids can be proud of helping bring to life! Don’t forget to incorporate any pumpkins from your pumpkin patch excursion with the family! You can paint or carve the pumpkins for an extra festive feel.

Fall Family Activities: Movie Nights

Try saving some money by skipping the theater this fall. Pick one night a week that you and the kids can look forward to bundling up under warm blankets to have a fun family movie night at home. Include enough time to make some apple cider and snacks to enjoy during the movie. Get festive with your movie popcorn and drizzle some caramel syrup on it for a sweet and salty snack! Choose from inspiring Christian films and shows with Pure Flix. After watching, discuss the lessons learned from what you watched with your kids!

Take time this fall to enjoy your family. Ranging from outdoor adventures to inside fun you have plenty of activities to choose from.

We honestly do not have Fall family tradition but I’d love to start one. Apple picking and movie nights will work best for us!

We usually go apple-picking as a family at some point in the season. I love grabbing cider doughnuts, apple cider and fudge during these trips.

My kids would really enjoy picking apples. They love to do that at their grandmas house.

Visiting a cider mill sounds like a lot of fun. I would love to have a cup of hot apple cider plus donuts. I will have to check if we have one around here.

I wish that we had an apple orchard and a corn maze near by. My kids would enjoy it.

My youngest hasn’t had the chance to experience anything like this yet. The two older kids had the opportunity to go on a haunted hayride one year. It was a blast. It was at a farm down the road from me when I lived in NC. I’m in TX now and have no clue where I could find something more kid friendly that isn’t a haunted house.

I want to find a cider mill! We have never done that and it would be so fun to explore something new.

Amazing article. You can add picking an activity, like skating, swimming, bike riding.

Our favorite fall activity here is walking and driving around taking pictures of the beautiful changing foliage we have here in Maine. We have gone apple picking on occasion. I like the tradition my youngest daughter and her family have. My oldest granddaughter just turned 6 in September, and this is what she has requested to do on her birthday since she was 2 or 3: pick apples! So that’s what they do every year.
