No, I’m not talking about you or your husband. You both may think each of you are boss :), but that’s not where I’m going.
God’s friendship is definitely something you don’t want to be without.  It’s an investment that has many returns.  Sadly, working moms, as well as moms of all kinds, let the important things get pushed aside for the urgent things that call for our attention.
Be intentional about spending time with God. Even if you have to pencil it in on your calendar, take time to do what’s most important. There are things you can do each day to spend time with God that will benefit you as a working mom:
Spend Time with the One in Charge
You can spend time with God each day.  That time will be most beneficial if you do all four of the following:

1. Pray to God.

Spend a few minutes talking to God. First, ask for his forgiveness for those sins you need to confess.  Then, ask for understanding of what you’re about to read.

2. Read the Bible.

Remember when I said you should make time- and life-management books your first choice genre if you have no time for anything else?  While, I still encourage you to do that, I recommend first and fore most that you read your Bible daily, even if it’s just 5 minutes.  Psalms and Proverbs are a great place to start.  I’m currently studying about the Proverbs 31 woman using the Thirty Days in Proverbs 31 (Bible Study for Busy Mamas.  I highly recommend it.  I’m learning how to research the meanings of words, as well as learning more about the Proverbs 31 woman. It doesn’t take too much time, either.

Commit to reading for 5 minutes — set a timer — or commit to reading one chapter.  It’s your choice, but don’t let the decision keep you from acting.  When you I stray from this special time with God, life seems more complicated and decision-making isn’t as easy.  Read something – anything – from His Word today, and tomorrow, and the next day.

3. Listen for to God now.

Now that you’ve read some instruction and encouragement from His Word, pray again, asking how you can use this Scripture in your life and for his guidance throughout the day and in any decisions you’ll have to make.

4. Listen for God throughout the day.

This is where the Holy Spirit really works.  As you go through your day, making decisions and having to respond to situations, you will be nudged (convicted) by the Holy Spirit with perfectly-timed guidance and conviction.

Benefits Received from Time Spent with God
  • Spending time with God provides peace in a chaotic world.  The bible can really calm an anxious and tired mom.
  • Spending time with God results in guidance, as mentioned above with the Holy Spirit guiding you throughout your day, bringing to mind Scripture you need at that precise moment.
  • Spending time with God helps you see aggravating and difficult situations, including that argument with your husband, in a better perspective, allowing you to respond in a more Christ-like manner.
  • Spending time with God provides a great example to your children who are watching.
This may seem basic, but it’s very important.  I’ve spent a great length of time not spending time with God on a daily basis and that stretch of time has not been handled well –  poor decisions and crazy emotional responses.

  2. Thank you for always suggesting books in your posts. I don’t research or look for books. I usually just read what is recommended. I really appreciate that!

  5. I saw your linked post on Missional Women – Faith Filled Friday. I totally agree that God should be the one in charge of our lives and our marriages. It’s interesting how many Christians don’t understand or know how to tap into the leading of the Holy Spirit. Thanks for sharing! I’m now following you on Twitter and Pinterest. My weekend linky is now live on one of my blogs if you want to join.

    1. @Laura ~ Thank you! I do have to admit, I don’t follow my own plan for spending time the God to perfection. It is beneficial to my soul and attitude when I do though!
